About 4 years ago I decided that I was going to grab a couple chairs and set up a small booth in one of the local parks here in Portland, where I would give my time to people as an advisor or simply a listening ear. The basic idea was that someone would sit down with me, I'd set a timer for 15 minutes, and we'd talk about whatever that person wanted to talk about. Somehow I ended up spending all this time planning the ideal booth, and I never actually made it to the park. That was 4 years ago, and though the idea has returned at times over the years it has become something that I "would do if I only had the time". Finally - I'm self-employed, creating my own schedule - I have the time. Also, I think something about seeing that spiritual healer work his magic in New York City's Union Square made me realize that you really have to seize the moment and do the things that you're called to do - and while I don't expect to be sending blasts of pure sound at the people who share part of their lives with me, I do feel, for whatever reason, like this is something that really resonates with who I am.
So today I'm going to head to Post Office Park here in Portland (at the corner of exchange street and middle street) - with a couple of folding chairs (no fancy booth). I have NO IDEA what's in store for me - it's exciting and nerve-wracking - but it's also pretty low-risk, I think. Now it's time to get ready - but I will update this post later in the day after I've returned, to tell you all what happened. Stay tuned!!!
I just left to come up here, damn I would've loved to observe this from afar!!!
Hey, methinks you should hire Schnaible services. We specialize in all the needs Toni listed on her blog (except for the I-phone thing, and anyways, that should wait a year after they have the kinks worked out and maybe you won't have to use AT&T as a carrier) We work for food, baby smiles, and good company.
bravo neil-
I say that what we do now is produce a weekly you-tube video with the signed releases of the people in the park. a tv show, man!
